I assume most of you guys are aware there’s a service called “Markup Validation Service”. If you develop Websites it’s a good idea you validate them before publishing to make sure the conform the Specifications that exit for HTML/XHTML or even CSS.
If you wonder what validation is all about you might want to check the W3C Page on “Validation Basics”.
Because i do this for all HTML/XTHML/CSS Projects i do, i was curious if others do to or to be more specific, if major Sites do. So i did some quick checks (just the Markups, not the CSS):
1. Apple.com (Doctype HTML 4.01 Transitional)
2. Amazon.com (Doctype HTML 4.01 Transitional)
3. Dell.com (Doctype HTML 4.0 Transitional (WTF?!))
4. Digg.com (Doctype XHTML 1.0 Transitional)
5. Ebay.com (Doctype HTML 4.01 Transitional)
6. Facebook.com (XHTML 1.0 Strict)
7. Flickr.com (Doctype HTML 4.01 Strict)
8. Google.com (Doctype HTML 4.01 Transitional)
9. Microsoft.com (Doctype XHTML 1.0 Transitional)
10. Mozilla.org (Doctype HTML 4.01 Strict)
11. Myspace.com (Doctype XHTML 1.0 Transitional)
12. Paypal.com (Doctype HTML 4.01 Transitional)
13. Youtube.com (Doctype HTML 4.01 Transitional)
14. Wikipedia.org (Doctype XHTML 1.0 Strict)
15. WordPress.org (Doctype XHTML 1.0 Transitional)
16. Yahoo.com (Doctype HTML 4.01 Transitional)
Yes, lot’s of Sites do validate, but obviously not much of the Major ones. Sites that do validate for example: Microformats.org, Zeldman.com and others.
Mostly a CMS or even better the Content maintained by Users produces a lot of Errors that haven’t been there when the Site was launched. Other Errors might be because of Scripts used for Adverts or additional Features.

hey, what a present! just 2 days before christmas my internal macbook harddrive went boom.
just while i was away for 5 mins getting milk (to serve delicious coffee to our dear guests), “timbo” had to reboot from windows to osx. when i came back all we saw was the “blinking question mark on a folder” icon while osx tried to boot… obviously it did not find a system disk. listening closely i noticed that “no-i-don’t-wanna-hear-that” clicks when the head tries to access the disk. funny we just talked about “cloud networking” 20 mins before… and now:
boom!
seagate momentus aka ST98823AS firmware 7.01, made in china rest in peace.
guess what? it seems i’m not the only one. when taking on the phone the next day, the guy speaking to just told me a friend of him just had the same on his macbook some days ago… aha – and yeah, there is it, computerworld and other sources reporting on “risky” seagate drives that hardly need a backup soon. gotta call apple support tommorrow and see what they say. even the can’t rescue my data i guess (yeah, right, i’m backing up all my EXTERNAL harddrives, but not my internal one) they maybe can offer … something.
what would mac guyver do?
Just had a friend have the same drive go bad.
